It's normal to notice more saliva than usual when you first start using iNAP. The oral interface is a new sensation in your mouth, and your mouth naturally produces more saliva in response to anything new it detects — just like it does when you first try a mouth guard or retainer. As you keep using iNAP, this extra saliva production typically decreases on its own.
A few things that can help in the meantime:
- Build up gradually during the day. Wear the oral interface while awake and sitting up — reading, watching TV — before using it overnight. This lets your mouth get used to it without the added challenge of also trying to fall asleep.
- Swallow periodically while maintaining the seal. You don't need to remove the device to swallow saliva normally.
- Try the other oral interface size. If one size feels like it's triggering more of a foreign-object sensation, the other size (I07L or I07H) may feel more comfortable for your mouth shape.
- Adjust the flow setting in the iNAP app. A higher flow setting can help clear any liquid out of the tubing more quickly if you notice gurgling or pooling.
- Stay reasonably hydrated during the day and avoid very large amounts of liquid right before bed, which can add to overnight saliva volume.
